Whip Katherine Clark secured monies for community project funding, including Malden River Works Project
Congresswoman Clark submitted funding requests for important community projects in MA-5 to the House Appropriations Committee.
Under guidelines issued by the Appropriations Committee, each Representative may request funding for projects in their community for fiscal year 2024 – although only a handful may actually be funded. Projects are restricted to a limited number of federal funding streams, and only state and local governments and eligible non-profit entities are permitted to receive funding. Congressman Clark’s request of $1,559,600 for the Malden River Works Project was fulfilled. The funding will be used by the City of Malden to fund the construction. This project will ensure the operational capabilities of the city’s Department of Public Works, and it will provide an environmental justice community with a new park on a historically inaccessible waterway. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because the project will improve access for community members and produce health and safety benefits for the City. The project has a Federal nexus because the funding provided is for purposes authorized by 42 U.S.C. 5305(a)(2).
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Democratic Whip Katherine Clark released the following statement after the House passed a minibus funding package:
“Democrats have once again defeated the worst impulses of this MAGA Majority. We have prevented Republican extremists from inflicting the chaos of a needless government shutdown while safeguarding vital programs from devastating cuts.
“This compromise doesn’t have everything we need, and it isn’t what a Democratic House Majority would deliver. But it excludes harmful attacks on reproductive freedom and the LGBTQIA+ community while continuing critical investments in the American people. I’m especially proud that Democrats delivered a $1 billion increase to our child care programs — a critical step forward for working families and our ability to grow the economy by growing the middle class.
“Much more work remains. We must act immediately to pass the Bipartisan National Security Bill, stand with our allies, deliver urgent humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, and fully invest in American families.”
