Billy Zeng (he/him) is a current undergraduate student at Tufts University. As a 2021 graduate of Malden High School, Zeng is interested in studying the intersections of neuropolitics and community advocacy, specifically building power within the low-income Asian American community. He was able to get involved with Malden’s local community through his time at Malden High. As the former president of Malden High’s Science National Honor Society, he was able to interact with the Malden River through environmental cleanups that caught the attention of Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey.

Zeng has been serving on the Greater Malden Asian American Community Coalition (GMAACC)’s Board of Directors since October 2020. Through this position, he became passionate about connecting youth with opportunities for them to become changemakers. In the fall of 2021, Zeng was able to co-organize Malden’s inaugural youth candidates form with a dedicated group of youth organizers. As a youth member on the Steering Committee, Zeng hopes to engage more Maldonian youth into the process of redefining the Malden River.

During his time at Tufts, Zeng hopes to continue his advocacy work in the Greater Boston area focusing on issues such as government representation, voting rights, language accessibility, and education equity. Most recently, Zeng began his journey in electoral politics, where he served as the Campaign Manager on the Committee to Elect Nate Bae Kupel for Malden Ward 8 City Council.
