Senator Jason Lewis hosts the third Malden River Forum at River’s Edge
On December 6, 2022, over 35 local, state, and federal legislators and community representatives gathered in the Great Lawn Room at River’s Edge in Medford, MA. The conversation centered around the Malden River: river bank improvements, environmental enhancements, and the Malden River Works Equitable and Climate Resilient Waterfront Park.
This is the third Malden River Forum organized by Senator Lewis since 2018. Massachusetts Senator Jason Lewis commented, “The Malden River, which is part of the Mystic River watershed, is a historic waterway, and many local leaders and community groups are working hard to help revitalize and improve public access to this beautiful natural resource.”
Senator Lewis continues, “The purpose of the Malden River Forum is to foster collaboration among all the different stakeholder groups, and support the many exciting initiatives that are underway along the banks of the river, such as the Malden River Works project.” Present were: representatives from City of Malden Strategic Planning and Community Development, Malden City Council, City of Everett, Mayor of Medford, Mayor of Malden, Congresswoman Katherine Clark's office, Office of Rep. Ultrino, Exec. Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, Senator Ed Markey's Office, Senator Elizabeth Warren's Office, Rep Donato, National Grid, Metropolitan Area Planning Council, Malden Community Preservation Committee, Conservation Law Foundation, Malden River Works Project Team and Steering Committe, MIT Center for Environmental Health Sciences, and Mystic River Watershed Association, and the Friends of Malden River.
Mayor Gary Christenson introduced the Malden River Works Climate Resilient and Equitable Waterfront Park as an important waterfront project that will create a healthier river and a healthier public with access to a more vibrant river. Marie Law Adams of Landing Studio (sitting to the right of Mayor Gary), principle designers of Malden River Works, presented a slide show of the waterfront project with an updated design and timeline.
